Where it all Started

As I reflect on my educational journey to become an interior designer, I often wonder what led me here and fueled my desire to pursue further education. Initially, I had planned to complete only the first year of Interior Design Fundamentals. However, I realized the extent of knowledge I needed to acquire as I became fully absorbed in the material and developed an acute awareness of how spaces can impact one's emotions within the built environment. I knew then I had to continue on this path of knowledge.

After four years, I have emerged with a profound respect for design that both humbles and excites me. Nevertheless, I will always remember
where it all started.

The following fragments highlight my initial year of education, where I was introduced to concept development, mood and precedent boards (formerly known as concept boards), and space planning. Above all, this work exemplifies a time when hand renders were mandatory, adding an extra layer of personal integration to the projects.

Project 1:

Barker Residence
Directed Studies Studio Project

The Barker Residence is a welcoming space with an open and warm atmosphere. At its heart, the design showcases a generously proportioned great room that serves as a versatile hub for hosting gatherings and facilitating the family's day-to-day activities.

Personal solace is valued, with tailored spaces for each family member to retreat and relax. One particularly significant aspect of this concept is the careful attention given to fostering a sense of independence and equilibrium. The primary bedroom, complemented by an accompanying private patio, has been purposefully designed to serve as a tranquil haven for the parent, striking a comfortable balance between professional obligations and the comforts of home life.

The Barker Residence combines togetherness and privacy, creating a harmonious and inviting environment for each family member to truly feel at home.

Project 2:

The design for the Bartolini Residence draws inspiration from the family's Italian heritage and vibrant food culture. Just as contrasting ingredients enhance each other's flavours, the design incorporates similar complementary elements throughout the space. This is particularly evident in areas dedicated to socialization, which play a vital role in the family's lifestyle and is most noticeably seen through the use of contrasting colours, which not only create a sense of drama but also reflect the family's dynamic, lively, and passionate approach to life. These vibrant hues work together further complemented by the combination of contemporary and rustic design elements found throughout.
